3 CREATIVE COACHING EXERCISES



YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Develop a fun and creative lesson plan that will engage a variety of skill levels of skateboarders, all of whom are in your class. The lesson is to be one hour in length. Each group will be given a scenario to plan for.

Things to Consider
FUNdamentals are key. Keep it simple, keep it fun & interesting!
Build in a “break-out” plan.
What “dry land” basic body skill are you incorporating?
Is there a way to include a lifestyle-awareness activity.



LESSON PLANNING SCENARIO # 1
The 10 students in your class range in age from 6 to 9. They have a variety of skill levels, but are mainly at a beginning level of skateboarding. One child is not very confident. Parents are observing. The location of your lesson is an indoor skatepark that has the following pieces of equipment: a mini-ramp, a fun box and ample flat ground space for your lesson. You have the following extras available: a whistle, crayons, skipping ropes, hula hoops, and coloured gloves.

LESSON PLANNING SCENARIO # 2
The eight children in your class are beginners, aged 8 to 11. Thi is the very first class, but you have prepared well in advance. Some know how to balance on their boards, and som ow how to push and tic-tac. Parents are observing. In the middle of the class, one child sits down in frustratiom

Your skatepark is outdoors and cement. The weather is very hot.

You have the following extras available to use at your discretion: a whistle, enough medium-size softballs for the class and a small portable basketball hoop.

LESSON PLANNING SCENARIO # 3
The six children In your class have moved from Kicks 1 Roll-ins to Kicks 2 Drop-ins. They have moved ihronqh previous lessons and have acquired some pretty good experience in skateboarding. They do not all want to focus on the same thing during this session. They are chock-full of energy and it is hard to keep the class under control. Helmet chin straps mysteriously keep coming undone.

Your skatepark is outdoors and cement.
